Music at WYCC

Adult Choir

The Senior Choir is for men and women high school age and up.
They rehearse on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. with the rehearsal time
lasting between 60 and 75 minutes.  The Senior Choir sings most Sundays as worship leaders.
They lead the hymn singing and responses and typically perform one anthem.
They also provide special music for the Maundy Thursday service and Christmas eve
as well as performing a major work on Palm Sunday.  The choir takes a well deserved break during
the months of July and August.  In the month of May, a Sunday is set aside for Choir Appreciation-
a time to recognize and thank the adult choirs for their service to the church.

The Bell Choir is also for men and women high school age and up.  Ideally it should consist
of 10 to 12 members. Ringing rehearsals are on Tuesday afternoons from 5:00 p.m. til 6:00 p.m.
The Bell Choir has a three octave set of Malmark Handbells, and plays periodically throughout
the year.  They have on occasion accompanied the Senior Choir anthems.  The Bell Choir year
is divided into three units, fall, winter, and spring.  This helps them to accommodate ringers who
are away during the winter months or unavailable for different reasons.  They aim to provide music for
Stewardship/Thanksgiving, Advent, the Easter season and on Choir Appreciation Sunday.

The Junior Choir  is for children age 6 to grade 8.  They rehearse on Sunday mornings following
worship (11:15) for twenty to thirty minutes.  They also sing periodically throughout the year and most notably
for the Children’s Christmas pageant and on Children’s Sunday in June when they receive their certificates of attendance and their choir pin.

Soloists are hired throughout the year for special music, adding a wonderful highlight to our services.

We also offer an opportunity on Memorial Day Weekend for all to join our “Folk Choir”.  We rehearse an easy piece prior to the service for all who want to participate.
